Description:

Eleanor Scoones and our own Lucy Worsley took to the Clore Learning Centre stage to tell us all about Lucy’s latest venture onto our TV screens Harlots, Housewives and Heroines: A 17th Century History for Girls. Eleanor, a producer and director on the show, gave us a fascinating insight into how such documentaries are put together, from drawing up an initial proposal, to researching, scriptwriting, filming, and finally post-production, or “spending hours stuck in a dark office rearranging Post-It notes” as she memorably described it. Lucy spoke further about her passion for 17th-century history and its extraordinary female characters, like the lovable Cockney sparrow Nell Gwyn and pioneering playwright Aphra Behn. What’s more, we got some great behind-the-scenes titbits, from riding a horse named Jeffrey side-saddle to the story behind buying that red coat!
