When I began this podcast, I had two goals in mind: to educate on transgender topics and to tell personal stories of life experiences. This episode is one such story: my own.
In the third of a three part series, I continue the story of my gender confirmation surgery. I awoke the next morning to a very strange sight: someone had brought breakfast to an unconscious woman. I did it. I had made it through my surgery. But the story was only beginning. The long road to recovery began with rest and wonderful care from the Thai nurses. I wanted to let myself heal, but I also wanted the opportunity to explore this foreign country. Fortunately, I was given that chance thanks to a friend of my mom. I was given an amazing gift on my incredible journey. But eventually it had to come to an end, and I had to make the long trek home. When I returned, I returned to a familiar world. But I had changed. The future felt just a little bit brighter, and I hoped that feeling would last forever.
Trigger warning: Minor discussion of medical terms.
