	Description:		Governments today have a chance to improve their economic performance, but they face huge obstacles, says Alastair Levy of McKinsey. In many cases the measures needed to be taken are clear, but government leaders don´t know how to drive change forward and deliver results quickly. Even in the private sector, 70 percent of major change programs fail to reach their objectives. In the public sector, the obstacles are even greater due to the scope and complexity of new initiatives. Changes led by governments also face tremendous scrutiny by the public and the press and the challenges of dealing with the electoral cycle. To be effective, the next generation of public leaders must ensure that they have adequate data to inform their decisions. They must also possess the skills needed for leading managerial reform from start to finish.
