Palmistry, the art of analyzing the physical features of the hands to interpret personality characteristics and predict future happenings goes back many hundreds of years. Aristotle (384–322 B.C.E.) discovered a treatise on the subject of palmistry on an altar of Hermes, which he then presented to Alexander the Great (356–323 B.C.E.), who took great interest in examining the character of his officers by analyzing the lines on their hands. During the Middle Ages the art of palmistry was actively suppressed by the Catholic Church as pagan superstition. In Renaissance magic, palmistry was classified as one of the seven "forbidden arts". After falling out of favor around the Middle Ages, palmistry underwent a monumental revival in the 19th century as interest in the occult grew and is quite popular today. During this week's show, Victoria Gross not only shared information about this divination method, but also took the time to put that information into action and read a few palms from listeners who submitted photos of their palms for her to read.
