The late Kurt Seligmann’s The Mirror of Magic, is a wide-ranging and accomplished survey of significant magical beliefs and practitioners in both East and West, spanning from antiquity to the dawn of our modern, scientific era in the eighteenth century. Seligmann was a Swiss-American Surrealist painter and engraver. Known for his fantastic imagery of medieval troubadors and knights in macabre rituals and inspired by the carnival held annually in his native Basel, Switzerland, he was also a brilliant historian and had a great interest in the magical world. Daniel Mack is a teacher, writer and artist who works with the powers of natural materials to make furniture and sacred objects. He is actively involved with surrealism as chairman of the The Seligmann Center in Sugar Loaf, NY at the 55-acre homestead of the book’s author. The book, was originally published in 1948 and has just been reissued as a collector’s edition by Inner Traditions. It is truly a magical book |
