Is the discussion of mono-tasking versus multitasking a tempest in a teapot, a true productivity killer or perhaps are we really discussing how we segment work? Depending on how you define the word, I believe it is the later. The problem is that like so many other words we have conflated a number of concepts into a broader idea.
