“Listen to your body.”Kelly and I have thrown this statement around a few times. Okay, maybe more than a few times. And while it sounds simple enough, diet culture has made it hard. Seemingly impossible.Diet culture has told us over and over and over again that our bodies cannot be trusted. And as a result, diet culture has ensued a widespread feeling that our bodies don’t know best. Spoiler alert: Our bodies know. Seriously, we are born with an innate ability to understand what we need, when we need it. But we’ve moved so far away from listening to our bodies -- ignoring our hunger and fullness, judging how much we eat, questioning our cravings, and so much more. It’s like we’ve been that many people feel like it’s seemingly impossible I’m going to be honest here -- the road back to learning to listen to our bodies and trust that they have our backs is hard. Really, really hard. And long. Definitely long. But once you realize that your body is working for you and not against you, it can become a little easier. So this week we’re breaking it down. What does it mean to listen to your body? What gets in the way of our ability to tune in? How does diet culture co-opt the idea of listening to our bodies, and how do we recognize it? How do we truly listen to our bodies? And should we ever not listen to our bodies?
This week we’re going to explore how we can learn to operate less from the mind and more from the body. Practical tools. Lots of them. All we ask is that you put your curiosity goggles on and try to press the mute button on the voices in your head that are telling you that your body doesn’t know what it needs, and the fears that come with the idea of letting it be your guide. Because your body knows best. It really does. While the connections may be loose and the volume may be low, we’re going to guide you through taking back your power. And if it helps, you can always think of it as an experiment -- a short-term commitment. Low risk. High reward. Who knows, you might fall in love with the idea of playing on your own team. But we’ll let you decide. I’ve probably said this before, but this week is REALLY my favorite. (The others we’re like… second favorites ;)) That being said, I am SO excited for you guys to listen. And better yet, I can’t wait to continue the conversation in real life during our group call this Wednesday, December 9nd at 8pm EST. As always, we’re still looking to answer your questions!
