Figures out later are expected to show a slowdown in the UK economy. Consumers have apparently been tightening their belts in the face of rising living costs. GfK's long-running Consumer Confidence Index dropped one point to -7 this month. Four of their five indicators decreased, leaving only the Major Purchase Index going up. That means for some reason we'd be more willing to splash out on large electrical items or expensive furniture.
