Our last two podcast episodes were dedicated to wedding dresses custom designed and produced by Zede herself for her daughters. But what if you don’t want/need to make your own dress. Mallory and Zede share some valuable insight in how to start the process of dress shopping and what to expect when needing alterations. Zede has not only sewn for many years she also has owned a bridal shop and made couture clothing for a number of them as well, so you can be sure this information has been well researched.
She highly suggests keeping an open mind and trying out many styles, even ones you have mentally ruled out – they may surprise you. Maybe you find the dress of your dreams or a neckline you love on your body. Maybe you learn what you don’t like, either way you are learning things that will help you find the dress for you. Mal and Zede suggest once you find this dress you remember to bring some appropriate undergarments and the shoes you intend to wear on the big day to any dress fittings. These items will help the alterations specialist make sure your dress is hemmed to the right length and fitted to you appropriately. They also stress that unless you are 5″11 or taller you will more than likely need your dress hemmed (assuming it is floor length).
If you haven’t noticed by now Zede and Mallory are passionate about a few things including their love of knee lifts and the 3TN (three thread narrow serger stitch), well they also have some thoughts on the popular trend of strapless gowns. They share their ideas on how the strapless dress has become one of the most offered and desired styles of dresses and how these dresses are suppose to be fitted/worn properly.
A little bit of fun ~ This weeks podcast graphic on the website was the logo Mallory designed for Zede’s bridal shop.

THIS EPISODE IS BROUGHT TO YOU BY: THE EASY T CLASS

The Easy T Class is the first online sewing class from SewHere.com.
We’re excited to offer an introductory course on pattern drafting, because we know that one of the biggest obstacles in sewing your own clothes is getting the right fit. Instead of downloading a pattern, taping it together, and then cutting it apart again to try and get a perfect fit, try taking your own measurements and drafting this simple top.
The Easy T is a semi-fitted, short-sleeved shirt made from a lightweight, woven fabric. While the possibilities for customization are endless, we recommend sticking to the basics for your first custom pattern.
One student says, “I ve purchased many (20+) online classes from Craftsy, Creative Live and others. Your Easy T videos are some of the best I ve seen. I love that you created many concise, easy to understand segments. Breaking the steps down in separate short sections makes it easy to follow and review things.”
