Hi sister and welcome back to the Sexyfit Podcast!

We’re wrapping up the #WCW series with our dear Sexyfit sister and one of the busiest women in the world Vivian Burk. Dr. Burk is a busy dentist who made a big lifestyle transformation in the past year and a half. At first I literally had to chase her down to enroll onto the program, but once she found her way in there was no stepping back. Vivian is now in the second year of the Mastermind and here is what she has learned on the journey and the bits of wisdom she wants to share with you.    

Why did you decide to join Sexyfit?

Because you clapped me over the head, haha! I wanted a lifestyle change and something I would be consistent with. My entire life I was far too skinny. I couldn’t put on weight and everyone was worried. I ate whatever I wanted and I was active. But then college happened and everything changed. My metabolism caught up with me and it became a struggle. I went through periods of yo-yo diets. I would spend 1.5h in the gym every day and eat only broccoli. I would get quick results but sometime after that I would get back to where I started with some extra pounds on top.

At one point I was 170 pounds and I thought I would never get there. When you told me about Sexyfit I felt I wasn’t ready. I even think I gained 10 more pounds before I joined. Money was a big barrier but it turned out it was an excuse. You hunted me down and I joined in one month after everybody else. Once I came in I didn’t quit because I am not a quitter. I decided I would stick with it. There is never a perfect moment, there’s no point waiting for it, you just need to decide to do it.

What are some of the major wins on your journey?

One of the major wins was that I did my first quarter marathon race last summer and I’m not a runner. I was proud about it even if I was the slowest runner ever. In a few weeks I’m doing my first half marathon. That is going to be another big challenge and big win for me.  

Another win is that I’ve been consistently focused on fitness for the first time in my life. Before it would be a month of gym and dieting and then nothing. Now I do check ins every week, I listen to the podcast every morning and I try to make good food choices throughout the day.

What would you tell yourself 2 years ago?   

Quit making excuses and really just dive in. Quit feeling sorry for yourself. I felt I was one foot in and one foot out for a long time. I knew myself and I knew it was hard to commit for a year but eventually that year passed so quickly and I wanted to keep going! That’s why I entered the second year.

What is one super useful piece of advice that you want to pass on to our audience?

Just get in there and do it. Whatever it is you think you can’t do it, just do it because you will find out you’re fully capable and physically and emotionally strong enough. Finding reasons why you can’t will just make things worse and keep holding you back. Rely on the Sexyfit community because we’re so like-minded and so many of us have the same goals, motivations and triggers. Where else can you find a group which is so positive and encouraging? It’s hard not to believe in yourself when everybody else believes in you.
