Hey, Sister! Welcome back to the Sexyfit Podcast. I have a special announcement today with the words FREE STUFF all over it. Adri (our awesome podcast producer) and I are doing a Sexyfit Seven Day “Food 4 Thought” Giveaway! All you have to do is leave a review on Itunes and leave your Instagram handle for your chance to win some additions to your sexy summer reading list. You still have a couple of days left! Are you tired of the constant struggle between us, women, to define and fit different beauty standards? Thick or thin? Curvy or skinny? Big butt or little butt? AHHHH! (let me take a breath). Sister, I have been asked about the Love Your Body Movement sooooo many times and all of its misinterpretations. This has been on my tongue for a while and I think it is time to address the positives and the negatives of the Love Your Body Movement. Controversial? Maybe. Necessary? Absolutely. HERE’S WHAT I TALKED ABOUT: - How the Love Your Body movement is not advocating for an unhealthy lifestyle and how to love your body while still working to reach your goals.
- The major downfall of the Love Your Body Movement and how to overcome body shaming and maintain a positive attitude when haters come to hate.
- Loving and accepting ourselves and others at any size and maintaining your motivation to succeed on your journey.
Loving Yourself Simply Means Loving Yourself Just because we love someone doesn’t mean that we become complacent. Just because we love our body, doesn’t mean that we sit on the couch all day eating Cheetos, sipping on a Big Gulp, and not work towards our goals and transformation. This is one of the biggest misconceptions of the Love Your Body movement; that loving and accepting yourself means becoming complacent and not working towards your fitness goals. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Is the Love Your Body movement fueling unhealthiness and obesity rates in America. No. ABSOLUTELY not. In a world where self-hate is something that lot of companies bank on, loving yourself is not entirely a terrible thing Take the beautiful Ashley Graham for example. She exercises regularly and eats to nourish her body regularly. Some women’s bodies are simply created and shaped differently, and we cannot say that beauty is solely at 110 lbs. We are all UNIQUE and healthy isn’t only one body type. The Downfalls We have all heard this before or seen it posted ALL over the gram. Posts with “real women have curves” or “curves are for men, bones are for dogs.” This is completely out of alignment with the purpose of the movement in the first place. What is a real woman and what the hell does that have to do with curves? Our body types and our body shapes do not define who we are as women (and neither should social media, sister.) I know “skinny shaming” is a controversial term but shaming ANYONE is still....shaming. Some women are struggling to lose weight, some struggle to gain weight, we all hold fat differently, and we all hold muscle differently, and NO ONE should be shamed or separated for what is. Why do we need a separation? Why do we need to shame somebody else who is strictly choosing a different lifestyle or has a different body type? If Love Your Body activists and Love Your Body activism campaigns are going to talk about love and acceptance, it is out of alignment to shame women out of that place to be with them instead of co-creating an environment where ALL women can stand together and make a bigger dent in the universe. (Feeling like you are stuck in negative self talk and want to create healthier brain patterns? Check out Ep# 098 Stuck in Negative Self-Talk? This Will Help!) R-E-S-P-E-C-T (please sing this) It is impossible to preach something that says acceptance and inclusion while excluding others. We cannot hate ourselves into a body that we love, and we cannot hate others into loving themselves more. That is fueled with a negative emotion and it’s only going to amplify. It also really does come down to respect. Whatever name you chose to call other people; “skinny”, “fat”, “twig” etc…It is representation of the respect you have for others and ultimately, it mirrors the respect you have for your self. Sister, I wanted to share this message with you because I have been asked about this so many time and a lot of the times the Love Your Body Movement is so misinterpreted. We think that there is no element of growth or effort in the Love Your Body Movement and that is just not true. I do not believe in the separation of bodies or humans from the community. I am really curious to hear your thoughts on this. If you have ever been a part of this or experienced any shaming or just anything you want to get off your mind, we’d love to hear all about on sexyfit.com/community.
