During the refining process, gold is "burned down", to allow for the impurities and the dross (worthless) materials to be melted away, leaving nothing but the pure gold. What a perfect analogy for the Christian, as God refines us to be more like Jesus. Once we've accepted His free gift of salvation, we then must encounter times of “the purifying process” in our lives, until Jesus is clearly seen!
