The highs of love and sex hinge on physical or psychological arousal, and relationships can be marked by desperation.
For people hopelessly in love, they go through life feeling desperate longing and constant fear. That is the fear of rejection, pain, unfamiliar experiences, and having little faith in their ability or right to inspire love. They wait and wish for love, but suffer a destructive twist on a normal life-enhancing activity.
For those who crave lots of sex, the need for arousal often replaces the need for intimacy; and the cravings can mask other issues such as depression, anxiety, and stress.
On today's episode I welcome back to the show Melissa Killeen, an addiction recovery coach with more than 25 years experience in personal recovery as well as 35 years as a small business owner and leader, about this powerful duo of addiction which carries with it an amazing stigma.
Melissa is the author of the first book on addiction recovery coaching, Recovery Coaching – A Guide to Coaching People in Recovery from Addiction.
She has received her Master’s Degree in Executive Coaching and a Master’s of Philosophy in Organizational Dynamics from the University of Pennsylvania.
Melissa is the past president of Recovery Coaches International, and in 2015, she received the Vernon Johnson Award from Faces and Voices of Recovery for her recovery coaching work.
Love and sex are typically seen as positive experiences. So, can too much really be a bad thing? Listen and find out...

Recovery Innovators Radio show is to here to help you turn your addiction recovery challenges and failures into successes and freedom from everything that’s keeping you from living the life you deserve.
I check in with innovative experts and individuals in the recovery industry, related fields or just “regular folks” who have had some incredible experiences so we can hear directly from them what is working today for addicts in recovery, for their families and their friends.
I also want this to be a learning tool for professionals in the recovery field, a place where ideas can be nurtured and spread, where networking and education can help addiction treatment become more effective all the time.
It's estimated that 53 million American's are touched by addiction. It is rare if you have not been personally affected by this disease.
So, even if you are not the addict, maybe it's your son or daughter, or Mom or Dad, or sister, brother, cousin, uncle, aunt, co-worker, boss, neighbor, whoever. This disease is impacting you somehow, making your life a little less than what you would like it to be if you could wave a magic wand and create your dream world.
I want these cutting edge ideas to be available to those who need help, those who often cannot afford to access the professional help they need.
My mission here is to do so much good for the recovery community that I have a positive effect on addiction. I want to help hundreds, if not thousands of addicts (maybe millions someday) to be healthy, sober and free, really enjoying their life in sobriety.
Thanks for listening! James Healy |
