Mikey started working at Sober College because, "I realized that anything I had accomplished in my life is because of my recovery program, and I want the next generation to do bigger and better things than I have."
Music and sobriety go hand in hand, and he loves being a role model in these young adults’ lives.
Mikey has been playing music professionally for 11 years. He is the drummer for the band Shiny Toy Guns and was nominated for a Grammy in 2007. With Shiny Toy Guns, Mikey has made two records on the Universal Motown label and a third for Eleven Seven.
Mikey has been sober for 10 years and is in the process of completing his CAADAC certification to be a drug and alcohol counselor.
Mikey has worked at Sober College since 2011. He began working with the clients at the house as a mentor, and now he gets to work with them in the studio as the Music Coordinator.
Mikey says, “I started working here because I realized that anything that I have accomplished in my life is because of my recovery program, and I want the next generation to do bigger and better things than I have.”
Mikey brings a unique perspective and a musical expertise to Sober College’s Music Program.
Mikey truly believes that it is important to hold passion over everything. He feels that by teaching clients to create art in sobriety can help them find a way out of addiction.
