Making pastry is simple - all you need is flour, fat and water. Yes, you can buy it, and that's fine, but there is nothing better than making your own, and you can tell. Homemade pastry isn't made by machine.
Hot Water Crust
800 g flour
1 tsp salt
350g lard
350ml water
Melt the fat in boiled water
Mix with the flour
Stirr
When warm enough to handle, bring together into a ball
Leave to cool
Roll out and line greased tin or use a dolly
MAKE PORK PIES!!!!!
Suet Crust Pastry
Use to top a pie
180 g Self raising flour
1/2 tsp salt
90 g vegetarian suet
Cold water to make a pliable dough.
Shortcrust pastry
Half fat to flour
So 200 g flour, 100 g fat - made from 50 g lard, 50 g butter
Rub together to make breadcrumbs
Add splashes of water until you have a good dough. |
