Making your own takeaway is great fun. Yes, sometimes it's good to have something done for you, but it's also great fun to have a bash!
We visit the Chi Yip Chinese Supermarket in Manchester and make some great dishes.
Char Siu
A kind of spiced roast pork.
500 g pork fillet
2 tbsp hoisin sauce
2 cm piece of fresh ginger, grated
1/2 tsp 5 spice powder
2 garlic cloves, grated
4 tbsp of honey
1 tbsp soft brown sugar
2 tbsp yellow bean sauce
2 tbsp soy sauce
30 ml rice wine
Score the meat
combine all the other ingredients in a bowl and mix well
Leave for 3 - 4 hours
Preheat oven to 190C, 375 F, Gas 5
Place pork on a rack in a roasting tin, with some boiling water in the bottom
Reserve half the marinade for the roasting
Roast for 20 minutes and baste with the marinade and roast for another 20 minutes
Leave to stand away from the water in the pan and then cut into strips |
