Muesli and granola make great breakfasts and are so much better when you make your own, rather than buying it is a box from the supermarket.
To make a basic muesli
200 g each of wholewheat flakes and porridge oats
25 g wheat bran or fine oats
350 g dried fruits
150 g nuts
You can add dried banana chips, dark chocolate chips, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, flax, chia, sesame seeds, anything you like!
Do you add sugar? - it’s up to you.
Dried milk often makes it creamier - about a tablespoon.
Basic granola
Preheat oven to 150 C, Gas 2, 300 F
You need 40 g melted butter or coconut oil or 2 tbsp sunflower oil
100 ml honey or syrup
Mix together
In a bowl mix:
300 g rolled oats
100 g flaked almonds
150 g mixed fruit
50 g pumpkin seeds
50 g coconut or chopped hazelnuts
Mix with the melted butter mixture - except for the fruit
Grease and place a sheet of baking paper on 2 baking trays, sprinkle the mix evenly
Bake for 10 mins
Bring out and then add the fruit, pressing into the granola
Bake for further 10 minutes.
Allow to cool
Granola bars
350 g oats
150 g butter
3 tbsp syrup
150 g dried fruit
50 g chopped nuts
25 g pumpkin seeds
Melt the butter and add the syrup
Mix oats, seeds and nuts and toast for 5 minutes
Add the oats and fruit to the melted butter and mix
Pour into a well greased 18 cm by 25 cm baking tin and bake for 25 minutes 160 C 325 F Gas 3
Allow to cool completely before slicing |
