We hear from listeners about their experience of audio description.

Connect Conversation

Should sighted actors be supported in their roles as blind characters in movies and TV roles, or should we insist the roles are given to blind actors? That's the debate this week following a blog post written by Chair of RNIB, Eleanor Southwood, where she talked about how RNIB were approached by and supported actress Natalie Dormer to play the blind character in a movie she wrote called 'In Darkness'. The partially sighted playwright Amy Bethan-Evans, who has had her own success in writing a play recently performed by blind actors in London shares her views of Eleanor's blog. Josh from disabled theatre group Extant also joins the conversation after creating their own controversy with their own version of the RNIB Chair's blog post.

Connect Around The UK

RNIB Connect Community Facilitators tell us what is happening in their local area. We hear from Sophie Fox in the South West of England, Beki Tolliday in the East of England, and Susan Burn in Glasgow and the West of Scotland meets Jamila Sheikh to discuss a book group idea she wants to get others involved in.

World Connect

Ron Graham from Texas tells us his story of sight loss which he admits is entirely his own fault. He describes how his love of alcohol caused him to be involved in a horrific car crash.

Paws for Thought

Each week we hear stories of guide dogs and their owners. This week we meet Karina Gregory who talks candidly about her experience with her furry friend.

#HowISee

As part of the national RNIB campaign to help people better understand how people with sight loss see using their own words, Bernie Warren tells us what she can see with her eyesight condition Diabetic Macular Edema.

Society of the Week

Our Society this week is the Milton Keynes Reader Service. June Edwards who uses the services of the charity tells us how the organisation helps her.
