In 1868, Physician Thomas Rhodes Armitage lost his sight and founded a charity which would become the Royal National Institute of the Blind (RNIB). The organisation has changed, dramatically, over the last 150 years and has risen to become the UK's leading charity, dedicated to improving the lives of blind and partially sighted people, whatever their age or circumstance.
