This week, Michael had the good fortune of discussing training from the perspective of the overarching accrediting and regulating bodies that help shape the current best practices for training.
Sharon Berry, PhD, LP, ABPP Director of Training and Site Lead. Dr. Berry earned a PhD in clinical psychology from the Florida State University in 1986 having previously earned a masters degree in clinical behavioral therapy at North Dakota State University. The doctoral internship was completed at the Medical College of Georgia/VA Consortium, with specialized training in pediatric psychology. Primary clinical interests include chronic illness populations, pain management, bereavement, and behavioral medicine. Previously, Dr. Berry was an assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Northwestern University Medical School, serving on the internship faculty and providing clinical services to a wide range of pediatric populations at Children’s Memorial Medical Center in Chicago (now Lurie Children’s). She serves on the APA Board of Educational Affairs, is President of the Society of Pediatric Psychology (Division 54), and is Past-Chair of the Board of Directors for the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC). She serves on several other education and training boards including the Council of Clinical Health Psychology Training Programs (CCHPTP), Division 12 (Clinical), and the Association of Psychologists in Academic Health Canters (APAHC). Dr. Berry represents Division 54 on the American Academy of Pediatrics AAP Subcommittee on Psychosocial Aspects of Child and Family Health. She was the recipient of the Division 54 Mentoring Award and the Wright Ross Salk Award for Distinguished Service, APA Education Advocacy Distinguished Service Award, Outstanding Service Award from the MN Association for Children’s Mental Health, Outstanding Graduate Faculty in Psychology Award from the MN Psychological Association, APA-PO Political Advocacy Champion Award, and APAGS Award for ”tireless advocacy for high quality internship training.”
