Episode #49
Sven is one of the younger dudes we’ve chatted with on the podcast – he’s 22, from Sweden and he’s probably won more contests than the average 22 year old competitive snowboarder has even entered. We catch up with Sven over Skype during some down time while he was recovering from an injury – which he explains in the episode. We also discuss his relationship with his sponsors, his aspirations to become a pilot, the olympics, dropping a never been done on dry slope and much more.
*Sven’s picture for this episode was drawn by @inyellowpants on Instagram – check out her work!
We are giving away a pair of 2015 L/XL Union Asymbol Bryan Iguchi bindings. They come complete with the carrying case. The left and the right both have unique artwork from Bryan that pays homage to the bison and the Native American tradition of the buffalo jump – they even glow in the dark. Full disclosure, it looks likes like they may have been ridden once, but you can hardly tell – they’re in like new condition.

Quotes from Sven:
“(I have) probably around 50 New Era hats or so…”
“It’s fun when you get to work with a company that is not in the snowboarding industry.”
“I didn’t even know about the new (GoPro) products… I think Halldor knew.”
“Max, I’ve been out like two weeks from snowboarding. Now, I’ve been out three weeks and it makes you realize how much your life is about skateboarding and snowboarding.”
“You always end up getting way better content on SnapChat.”
“We just dig a hole in the ice and have a Christmas bath.”
“I was riding the biggest jumps alone on a shitty weather day and he (the Smith Rep) was like I have to sponsor that kid.”
“I had to move away form home at 15 years old.”
“I think that the Olympics was not too bad for Slopestyle, but the FIS contests to qualify really sucks.”
“Our school had a mini-ramp and a skatepark.”
“There’s one easy solution for it – just stop selling guns to everybody.”
“If you wanted to buy a gun in Sweden you’d go to some criminal guy and you’s have to pay like $20,000 – it’s not accessible here.”
“It was super scary – the narrowest loop ever… and I’d never done dryslope either!”
“I probably tried it 60 times (the dry slope loop)!”
