Polu, whether he likes it or not, is probably one of the most well-known vegans here in Aotearoa. Why? Well let’s just say he proudly challenges the idea of your stereotypical skinny white hippy vegan. And people are noticing. Growing up in Auckland’s Pulo was just like any Samoan who loved their big family feasts. After deciding the university definitely wasn’t for him he found himself in the army where he developed what he calls his moral compass. Using it as a guide to ask himself what decisions can I make today will make me a better person, how can I help people? How can I live with Integrity?
When he met his beautiful wife Helena, it wasn’t long before the food on his plate entered his moral compass. He was asking himself, am I becoming a better person by causing suffering and death just so I can eat? Well, obviously, his answer was no and in a pretty short time he found himself vegan and developing a meditation practice.
Now a sergeant in the New Zealand army, Pulo is passionate about spreading the vegan movement in any way he can. Whether it be doing animal rights protests, or coming on my podcast.
What really stands out to me though is Pulo’s big heart and willingness to have the balls to stand up for what he believes in and challenge the status quo even if it's hard. I really believe Pulo’s presence here will make many people, especially men question what it really means to live with courage.
I am so grateful to share this conversation with you and even more grateful to call Pulo my friend! Enjoy the episode
