Description:

In America, there's nothing unusual about celebrity chefs. Starting with the incomparable Julia Child, we've seen the rise of giants like Emeril, Mario Batali, and Gordon Ramsay, as well as trend setters and taste makers like Thomas Keller, David Chang, and Wylie Dufresne. We're also familiar with activist chefs like Jamie Oliver who used his platform and reach to challenge the American school system to wake up to real food.

By and large, these chefs are embraced by the media and applauded for their efforts, and on the surface, Australian celebrity chef Pete Evans' story seemed like it would follow a similar trajectory. Along with numerous cookbooks, a decades-long career as a chef and restaurateur, and multiple broadcast television credits, Pete Evans is an outspoken advocate for the paleo approach, but instead of applause, he often receives derision. His critics, a broad coalition that includes tabloid news outlets like the Daily Mail and the Dietitians Association of Australia which said, "Our primary concern is that some aspects of the Paleo diet are inconsistent with the Commonwealth Department of Health's Australian dietary guidelines."

On today's episode of Paleo Magazine Radio, we're joined by Chef Pete Evans in a conversation that goes beyond the headlines, focusing instead on the heart of the matter, his lifelong passion and dedication to empowering and educating with real food. During our conversation, we dive deep into Pete's training as a chef, his first real restaurant job, how Tony Robbins temporarily turned him into a vegan, how Nora Gedgaudas' "Primal Body Primal Mind" changed his life, why it took him more than a year to publicly come out as Paleo, as well as his books, TV shows, and Paleo Way 10-week Transformation Program.
