With 2.5 Million downloads over 4 years and more 250 shows, Greg and Ethan talk honestly and openly about the future of Packet Pushers, the increasing impact on our personal lives and the choices we face in the months ahead.state-of-pushers-200

What few people understand is that producing the Packet Pushers podcasts takes a lot of time and the workload is increasing. Frankly, we are beginning to wear out. At the same time, we are changing and our personal goals are maturing. We now know that Packet Pushers is unlikely to be a full-time business and we need to consider how the show will be sustainable in the years ahead.

Since we started on May 2010 we have published more 250 show and have been downloaded more 2.5 million times. Four years ago, networking was a much simpler place with routing & switching the core topics. Today, SDN, Cloud and Orchestration/Automation are impacting the networks of today. We spend more hours researching new technologies, briefings and updates and much more.

At the same time, we have seen increasing levels of personal abuse, accusations of bias and many other incidents of unpleasant social media engagement.  It would be nice if more people could be nice but the reality is that we get more than our share of criticism and abuse. We don t care much for publicity and try to focus on issues and our guests so the vilification is seems unjustified.

We share our thoughts and views with you so that you know what is happening in our lives because the you, the audience, are the people who give us the most valuable resource – attention.

We will be back next week. Changes are coming. Like they always do.
