This week are talking about the IETF and it’s inability to cope with massive change in networking around SDN and NFV. For example, there are more than 70 drafts on NETCONF models for common networking tasks that often overlap or repeat the same work. What does this means for standards development ?
Topics
- YANG – the dramatic takeoff of YANG models in IETF and other SDOs.
- lots of 0.0 drafts – meaning lots of new work and duplicated effort. Everyone is inventing the same wheel.
- the need for coordination between different efforts
- How to get involved
- sharing yang models on Git, as is ODL, some synergy there
- slow IETF process, why that s a problem
- network management must happen soon, or we run the risk of it happening in a different way an island of Internets that can t intercommunicate
