Description:

As the industry adoption of SDN gains rapid traction, the Wide Area Network is emerging as the leading use-case (read 2015 is all about SD-WAN). Aging architectures make the WAN the dinosaurs of enterprise infrastructure. While WAN optimization can address a short-term capacity problem, the bigger problems of high circuit costs, network rigidity and poor cloud performance are largely unchanged.

What the WAN needs desperately is a shot in the arm.

In this podcast, Viptela s VP of Product Management, Ramesh Prabagaran talks to Ethan and Greg on how the WAN can shift from a rigid to a fluid infrastructure using hybrid WANs and how network architects can plan for this transition.

Viptela s approach to creating hybrid WANs is a thoughtful integration of routing, network security, policy and operations. The Viptela Secure Extensible Network (SEN) provides a ground-up architecture that is built-on time-tested principles that both the network architects and the network operators have come to rely on.

Show Notes

In the show we discuss the following topics

  • Concepts of overlay routing, WAN segmentation, application-aware routing and high-scale encryption in a hybrid WAN
  • How cloud fundamentally disrupts the he WAN architecture
  • Technical details of how to operationalize the new SD-WAN architecture, and why is encryption an integral part of it
  • Visibility, troubleshooting and rapid change management the new normal in SD-WAN
