Show 276: Glue Networks, SD-WAN & Network Orchestration (Sponsored)

Description:

Wide Area Networks (WANs) are increasingly difficult to manage. The average enterprise network has assets in diverse locations, increasing scale and numerous unique devices. To add to that, most leverage many different transport options including MPLS, Carrier Ethernet, Frame-Relay, legacy T1/E1 circuits and cellular connections.

Enterprises are looking at new technologies such as Software Defined WAN (SD-WAN) to achieve agility and cost savings. As enterprises leverage this approach, they must choose between testing new vendors with proprietary solutions requiring new hardware, or increasing and extending the life of their existing infrastructure while turning embedded feature sets on.

However, the skill set and complexity challenges of migrating existing infrastructure from current state to an advanced architecture in an elegant manner can be a daunting task. Glue Networks Gluware software platform solves this problem.

In this podcast, Ethan and Greg speak with Olivier Huynh Van, CTO and Co-Founder of Glue Networks, and learn about Gluware s solution to problems facing enterprise networking.

Gluware takes a unique approach to network management by addressing the needs of the network engineers responsible for the design and configuration as well as the network operations team responsible for support and change management.

Gluware is designed to build and re-use network models to provide abstraction and simplify provisioning and configuration of the network.  The result is the ability to move away from the old methods of manually building configuration files and using un-intelligent scripts to push the configurations to network devices while hoping there are no issues that arise.

Olivier provides and in-depth description of Gluware s vendor-agnostic solution made up of Lab for the network engineer and Control for the network operator. Gluware Lab is a Network Development Kit (NDK) for the network engineer, yet it does not require them to be a programmer.  Lab enables engineers to build modular, re-usable configuration components which are intelligently applied to the network with knowledge of requirements for specific device types and interdependencies to avoid issues.

Gluware SmallGluware Control is a cloud-based SaaS providing the ability to leverage pre-built configurations and policies to provision new sites and services as well as provision network configuration changes in real-time. This includes everything from zero-touch provisioning to a real-time push of a QoS policy change to address an application requirement on the network.

Gluware LargeOne of the key points of the discussion is around SD-WAN and how advanced the suite of technologies are to use it which include routing, security, QoS policy and tunneling (overlays).  Olivier describes how SD-WAN is a key use-case to apply Glue s technology, which provides built-in support for Cisco IWAN, a robust SD-WAN solution.

In summary, for enterprises looking at leveraging new technologies and modernizing network operations while maintaining legacy network equipment, Glue Networks provides a unique solution addressing the network design and configuration as well as network operations, even for complex use-cases like SD-WAN.
