Show 310: High-Stakes OpenStack Networking

Category: Technology
Duration: 00:00:00
Publish Date: 2016-10-14 14:44:10
Description:

Today’s show looks at OpenStack networking in a high-stakes production environment: Paddy Power Betfair, a betting and gaming exchange with both online and storefront operations. The company is traded on the London Stock Exchange.

The company turned to OpenStack so it could programmatically control its infrastructure. Maintenance was difficult, and IT wanted to give developers an AWS-like ability for deployment. OpenStack lets them control compute, storage, and network from a common set of APIs that they can program against.

Joining the Packet Pushers to talk about OpenStack in the real world are Steve Armstrong, principal automation engineer at Paddy Power Betfair; and Mark Prior, principal consultant from Computacenter.

They talk about the drivers for adopting OpenStack, the operational benefits and challenges, how they treat infrastructure as code, how they use OpenStack with tools such as Ansible, and more.
