NEC Aligns With Dell & Drops SDN Controller Pricing

NEC is the latest software-defined networking (SDN) partner to line up with Dell, as the companies announced Tuesday that Dell will resell the NEC ProgrammableFlow controller.

As you may have seen, Cumulus Networks today announced its new Cumulus Linux 2.5 software release. The launch of Cumulus Linux 2.5 will significantly expand Cumulus Networks addressable market, allowing more traditional enterprises to use Cumulus Linux on bare metal switches, which will increase competition with industry heavyweights like Cisco and Juniper. A couple of other quick highlights from the announcement can be found below:

The new version of Cumulus Linux will work in more traditional (Layer 2) network architectures in addition to the more modern ones (Layer 3) the company has supported to date.
Cumulus Networks is working closely with VMware, Hortonworks and OpenStack integrators to make it simpler for customers to use bare metal switches in popular cloud environments.
The company is publishing step-by-step guides, letting potential customers test remotely and holding training sessions that will help IT professionals gain comfort with open networking.
