Description:

Take a Network Break! Grab a coffee, a doughnut and then join us for an analysis of the latest IT news, vendor moves and new product announcements. We ll separate the signal from the noise–or at least make some noise of our own.

CloudRouter

Open source licensing cloud be dodgy, the license seems to be encumbered in some critical modules and that could mean a closed open source project.

THE SOFTWARE. CloudRouter (the Software) is a modular routing platform comprised of many software components. The end user license agreement for each component is located in the component s source code. With the exception of certain image files containing the CloudRouter trademark identified in Section 2 below and certain firmware files (denoted in the License field of the RPM packaging)

HP stops trying to sell public cloud or just servers to public clouds ?

We thought people would rent or buy computing from us, said Bill Hilf, the head of HP s cloud business. It turns out that it makes no sense for us to go head-to-head.

HP is still selling servers, but increasingly it looks like its biggest customers will be cloud companies themselves, or other computing behemoths, like Facebook. For thousands of other customers, Ms. Whitman hopes to build smaller cloud systems, while figuring out ways these companies can also use Amazon or Microsoft.

Brocade Campus

One aim of the 7250 is density, with the ability to stack switches to a combined 576 ports of Gigabit Ethernet. (That s 12 switches with 48 ports apiece.) Each switch also has eight ports of 10-Gb/s Ethernet that can be used for either uplinks or stacking.

Three things
1. High density and low cost campus hardware – 12 high stacking, modular interfaces, etc etc. Check the data sheets for the fine print.
1. Switch Port Extender using IEEE 801.BR standard to provide better security & segmentation
2. OpenFlow / SDN features further enhanced and rolled out. Vyatta Controller capabilities fast approaching.

Pertino Integrates With Your Existing WAN

Pertino, a company reinventing networking for the mobile and cloud era, today announced an extension of its Cloud Network Engine security foundation that brings zero-trust networking to the WAN and addresses the network security challenges of distributed workforces and workloads within the enterprise. Pertino combines secure overlays, virtualization and new Multi-Layer Authentication (MLA) capabilities to enable enterprises to extend zero-trust networking over the Internet to remote and mobile devices, virtual machines (VMs), Docker containers, and even IP-connected devices like kiosks and industrial controls.

Juniper

The enhanced switches are being announced today to coincide with the HPC for Wall Street conference in New York yet another example of how important the deep-pocketed, performance-obsessed financial sector is to switch vendors. Arista got its start by catering to high-speed traders, and Cisco followed suit with the Nexus 3000 line of switches.

Juniper s new QFX5100-AA is a fixed-format, 40-Gb/s switch for application acceleration. It comes with an acceleration module, the QFX-PFA, which is based on an Altera Stratix V FPGA. The PFA module isn t built as a rack-mounted switch; it s a compact, squat little box, as you can see in this Juniper blog entry.

Thoughts…
Arista offered the 7124FX in 2012. They EOS ed it in 2014. There is no recommended replacement.
The Juniper module has the E3-1125C v2 CPU on board. It s already 2 years old.
To take advantage, you need to program using Maxeler Technologies dataflow programming. Who does this? Financials. JPMC listed as Maxeler customer.

Soha Systems Launches

The service, called Soha Cloud, provides security functions when users initially try to access cloud-based applications. Once they are cleared for access, the service bridges a link to the app they requested as if the request is originating from within the network, making network changes unnecessary.

Tying the service into customers cloud infrastructure takes about 15 minutes, and it can be applied to apps located in private or public clouds, according to Soha CEO Haseeb Budhani
