Nuage Networks announces overlay & underlay integration
Nuage Networks announces a practical way to integrate an overlay & underlay networks. Because network engineers can t understand why it doesn t matter for the majority of use cases and keep asking for tools that integrate them.
What we are demonstrating today is that not only is it possible to achieve visibility in an overlay deployment, but that this is doable without any hardware lock-in to any vendor s strategy and without any need for reinventing new protocols or APIs. There are simple solutions that are based on open protocols and standards, and by combining those with an intelligent correlation layer, one can achieve full operational visibility.

Matt Oswalt breaks down the networkers need to learn to code debate into two sensible categories
And that s fine! Why try to make it something that it s not?! The point is that if you re writing code at all, you re doing it because you are a network operator, and you want to be better at it. You don t want to be a programmer. This area is certainly not for full-time developers only – most full-time devs don t have the time or inclination to run a network. This area is all about learning enough about languages and tooling to add value to your role as a network operator.

Verizon buying AOL for $4.4 billion, calls it a digital trailblazer
Why does Verizon want content ? Probably to track users over the network and measure what they look at so that data can be sold to data brokers.
Perhaps of most concern to anyone who reads news sites, Verizon noted that it would own AOL s premium portfolio of global content brands, including The Huffington Post, TechCrunch, Engadget, MAKERS and AOL.com. (Re/code reported that AOL could spin off the Huffington Post content unit.)

HP Partners with Tsinghua to Create a Chinese Technology Powerhouse
HP finds a way to do business in China – selling 51% of the local business unit to a Chinese company.
Under the definitive agreement, Tsinghua Holdings subsidiary, Unisplendour Corporation, will purchase a 51% stake in a new business called H3C, comprising H3C Technologies and HP s China-based server, storage and technology services businesses, for approximately $2.3 billion, valuing the total business at $4.5 billion (net of cash and debt). Combining these two entities, the new H3C will be a technology powerhouse in China with a market-leading portfolio that will be #1 in networking and a leader in servers, storage and technology services.

Pica8 with several open networking related announcements
Pica8, maker of PicOS and whitebox switch vendor, has made a series of interesting announcements in the last couple of months.
Training program, Labeled BGP and Broadcom Tomahawk-based products.
Pica8 and INE Announce Partnership to Provide SDN Engineer Training Curriculum Pica8®, Inc., the software defined networking (SDN) white box leader, today announced a partnership with INE, a leader in network training, to provide the first-of-its-kind, network engineer training course for OpenFlow-based software defined networking (SDN).
Pica8 Disrupts Data Center Economics by Offering Service Providers Overlay Choice announced that it is the first to support Labeled BGP on bare-metal, white box switches. The new capability as part of Pica8 s newest software release PicOS 2.6 aims to stir up the network overlay discussion with a solution driven by service providers. Many large enterprises are pursuing a VXLAN / VMware model for multi-tenant services, workload mobility and overlay networking within their data centers. But service providers have extensive experience and tools that solve this problem over the wide area network (WAN). Rather than VXLAN, carriers have more experience with MPLS and BGP, and would like to continue using those to establish tunnels inside and between their data centers. Labeled BGP is a signaling mechanism carriers can use to create MPLS paths; but today this function is only available in expensive edge routers from the likes of Cisco and Juniper. This capability in Pica8 s OS, coupled with white box economics, gives carriers a far more cost-effective alternative to deploying this technology.
Penguin Computing to Offer Pica8 s Network Operating System PicOS is the only product on the market that supports switching, routing, and OpenFlow 1.4 in a Linux-based environment that will be immediately recognizable to and usable by DevOps administrators. With its unique CrossFlow Networking capabilities, PicOS allows users to combine Layer 2 / Layer 3 and SDN protocols on the same switch, making it easy to integrate SDN functions into an existing data center environment.
And also, Pica8 ships switches using the Broadcom Tomahawk chipset.
Pica8 First to Offer Tomahawk-enabled White Box Switches first to support Broadcom s latest chipset, Tomahawk, which enables line rate 100G Ethernet, as well as support for 25G and 50G Ethernet. To support Tomahawk, Pica8 has ported its network operating system, PicOS, to Inventec s DCS Series switch, which comes with 32x100G QSFP28 ports. Inventec s DCS7032Q28 is a feature-rich, high-performance and low-latency switch suitable for next-generation data centers. Pica8 has limited samples of Inventec s Tomahawk platform available for testing.

Open Networking Summit is the pioneering SDN and NFV conference designed to foster a productive dialogue around SDN and NFV by bringing together the networking ecosystem of end-users, engineers, business leaders and researchers to discuss the possibilities and shape the future of the networking industry.
Open Networking Summit 2015 will be held June 14-18 in Silicon Valley, California and features an expanded program of pragmatic SDN information. Focus of this year s conference is on education, sharing of experiences and best practices for the future.
ONS2015 program features 3 Keynotes, 3 Panels, 3 Plenaries and 9 tracks. Keeping with the Open Networking theme, ONS2015 will emphasize all Open Networking projects: OpenDaylight, OPNFV and Open Network Operating System (ONOS) via talks, developer tracks and tutorials for each. Additionally speakers from leading incumbent and startup vendors will share their innovations and customer experiences.
