NFL early departures is the open for today’s #oniowapod.
The Hawkeyes are one Mackey Award-winning TE from losing four players to early entries in the NFL draft. Before the Outback Bowl, TE Noah Fant said goodbye. Post-Outback, safety Amani Hooker and defensive end Anthony Nelson have announced their decisions to turn pro. TE T.J. Hockenson will be next.
What are the implications for Iowa 2019? Obviously, no definitive answers yet, but it’s OK to talk about it.
It was OK to talk about a lot of things on this podcast.
Is Iowa offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz’s two-year resume running the Hawkeyes offense good enough to merit an interview for a head coaching position this year?
Are press boxes becoming too much like a cheering section?
We talked about the tweaks we’d make to Iowa’s running game? Scott liked more gap, more vertical blocking. I favor more zone-read action (so many high school offenses run that now). But will the staff really take a look under the hood of the running game this offseason?
Offseason visits? Scott would like Iowa to take a visit to Army for ideas on cut blocks. I threw Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi out there. He’s a former Big Ten defensive coordinator who’s now the head coach at Pitt and dealing with a million versions of the spread.
Punting shakeup? It’s discussed. Needs examination.
Three things I’d suggest for Iowa’s athletics department?
Big Grove Party Deck at Kinnick.
Men’s and women’s hockey.
Something something Carver.
We received a ton of great questions and got to all or most of them. Very much appreciate the participation. Thanks for listening. |
