Farm to Table Talk

Farm to Table Talk HRN

As a lifelong food and agriculture veteran, Farm to Table host Rodger Wasson has always believed the best conversations happen when people gather around a table. Each episode, he invites chefs, farmers, policymakers, researchers, and community advocates to share the ideas, insights, and lived experiences shaping how our food is grown, prepared, and passed from one set of hands to another.

This week, Wasson reaches into the archive for a conversation that still resonates deeply today: his interview with Gus Schumacher — the late USDA Under Secretary whose life’s work bridged farms and families.

In this episode, Wasson revisits Schumacher’s reflections on SNAP innovation, nutrition incentives, and the structures that help ensure everyone has access to healthy, dignified food.

Beyond his government service, Schumacher co-founded the Wholesome Wave Foundation and helped advance reforms that continue to shape food and nutrition policy. The USDA’s Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program now carries his name, a testament to his lasting vision for connecting farmers and families.

Farm to Table Talk is for listeners curious about the journeys within our modern food system and the stories behind every bite.

Stay tuned — there’s much more to come.
