Description:

In 2010, Jimmy Carbone sat down to record the very first episode of Beer Sessions Radio with friend and fellow beer afficionado, the late Ray Deter (RIP). 750 episodes later, it’s longest continuously running show on Heritage Radio Network, and still going strong.

A convivial audio ale salon, Beer Sessions Radio has chronicled the craft beer revolution in real time. Through lively discussions with industry insiders and beer enthusiasts from across the country, the show explores new trends, groundbreaking collaborations, and the stories and people behind the pints. While beer is the main topic of discussion (and tasting), sake, spirits, and other beverages sometimes make a guest appearance.

For his landmark 750th episode, Jimmy recently returned to Roberta’s, the Bushwick restaurant where he recorded most of his shows (and where Heritage Radio Network first started.) This special show, even more of a party than his regular weekly episodes, features friends from the neighborhood and beyond who help Jimmy celebrate his achievement. Everyone gathers around the table to taste, talk, and soak in the vibe. Belgian beer, skateboarding, and fresh local sake are all on the menu, along with opinions on why small batch spirits are always worth any extra effort it takes to find them (or if that’s even a thing.)

Jimmy Carbone

Jimmy is no stranger to the vibrant New York City drinks scene. A sommelier and longtime alcohol buyer, he owned and operated the beloved East Village spot Jimmy’s No. 43. His restaurant was known for its seasonal green market-inspired menu and of course, a tightly curated beer list.

Furthering his passion for brews and bringing people together, Jimmy co-founded The Good Beer Seal, an organization that celebrates bars offering at least 80% craft domestic or specialty imported beer — all served in unique, community-driven spaces.

Beyond the mic and the taproom, Jimmy is the founder of Food Karma Projects, a creative events company known for producing food and media experiences throughout New York City and up into New England.

He’s also the co-author of “I Like Pig: Recipes and Inspiration from New York City’s Pig Island” a cookbook that was a finalist for a coveted IACP Award. He still produces the day-long Pig Island BBQ festival, an event he founded a year before he started Beer Sessions Radio, that served as the inspiration for his book.

So whether you’re a hophead or just love a good food-and-drink podcast — grab a pint and tune in to the show. Look for the special anniversary episode (15 Years, 750 Episodes, 1 More Time at Roberta’s) but first, check out the guest list and see who was there to celebrate:

  • Alex Corporan, longtime NYC skateboard and style icon, co-producer of ‘Empire Skate’, which premiered in June at the Tribeca Film Festival and is now streaming on ESPN and other major platforms
  • Shinobu Kato of Kato Sake Works brewery and taproom in Bushwick, Brooklyn
  • Kaori Eda, a sake enthusiast
  • Belgian beer experts James Tai of Duvel Moortgat and B.R. Rolya, import rep and #1 guest of all time on Beer Sessions Radio! McChouffe Belgian Scotch-style ale was enjoyed around the table.
  • Leonardo Comercio and Gabriel G Velázquez Zazueta, reps of indie spirits importer PM Spirits, based in Bushwick, Brooklyn
