Judge of Questionable Character: Woman Accusing Supreme Court Nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh of Sexual Assault Comes Forward

Description:

On Sunday, the woman who has accused of Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault came forward, speaking publicly for the first time about the incident that occurred in the early 1980's.

51-year-old research psychologist, Christine Blasey Ford, alleges that Kavanaugh "corralled her into a bedroom," groped her over her clothes, and attempted to remove her one-piece bathing suit, according to a new report from The Washington Post.

Ford went on to say that when she attempted to scream, Kavanaugh proceeded to put his hand over her mouth.

Kavanaugh has since denied the allegations against him, saying, in part, "I categorically and unequivocally deny this allegation. I did not do this back in high school, or at any time."

The allegations have caused Senators on both sides of the aisle to call for a pause on Kavanaugh's final confirmation vote until the allegations have been sorted out. Most notably, Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) has told Politico that he is "not comfortable voting yes" on Kavanaugh until a hearing is scheduled with Ms. Ford.

Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) also expressed her apprehension with voting on Kavanaugh so quickly amid these allegations, telling CNN that she is "going to be talking with [her] colleagues" to assess the best path forward.

On TODAY, this morning, Ms. Ford's lawyer told Savannah Guthrie that she is willing to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Washington Post reporter, Emma Brown, joins the panel, this morning, to break down Ms. Ford's story and how the groundbreaking interview came to fruition.

Also making headlines, this morning, former Trump Campaign Manager Paul Manafort has agreed to cooperate "fully, truthfully, completely, and forth-rightly" with Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

This brings in a heavy fog of uncertainty over the White House; and, as Lawyer Alan Dershowitz points out, "there is no limit" to the topics that Manafort can speak about and thus, more than enough room to, potentially, flip on President Trump.

It's Monday, September 17, 2018. Welcome to Morning Joe.
