A whirlwind of tweets was unleashed, yesterday morning, by President Donald Trump; one of which called for Attorney General Jeff Sessions to end the "rigged witch hunt" that is the Russia investigation and to fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller. The investigation from which Attorney General Jeff Sessions has recused himself. The tweets come as 3 different sources close to the President confirm that he is attempting to speed up the investigation by heeding his lawyers' advice and meeting with Mr. Mueller to absolve himself of any wrongdoing. It was also revealed that Mr. Mueller sent a letter to the White House explaining that he would curtail questioning on obstruction of justice in order to score an interview with President Trump. On Capitol Hill, GOP Senators responded to the President's tweets not with condemnation, but with a resounding restatement of the fact that Jeff Sessions cannot fire Robert Mueller, based upon his recusal from the investigation. Turning toward the upcoming Midterm Elections, President Trump has alleged that a government shutdown would be a "great political thing" and would actually end up helping Republicans turn out voters. The shutdown, if it does occur, would be over the budgeting, or lack thereof, of President Trump's controversial border wall. It's Thursday, August 2, 2018. Welcome to Morning Joe.
