Secretary of State Mike Pompeo appeared before members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, yesterday, to answer questions on the President's summits in both Singapore and Helsinki with Kim Jong-un and Vladimir Putin, respectively. In the nearly 3 hour long meeting, tension arose between the Secretary of State and Senators Bob Corker (R-TN), Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Chris Murphy (D-CT) over Pompeo's defiant, and somewhat condescending tone when responding to any sort of questioning. This includes questioning on the President's two-hour meeting with Vladimir Putin and the Administration's systematic perpetuation of public distrust in the FBI. On the FBI, new polling from NPR/PBS Newshour/Marist shows 60% of Americans agree that the Bureau is "just trying to do its job" when it comes to investigating President Trump. Among Republicans, however, that number drops to just 37%, with 55% believing that the investigation is biased against the Administration. Also happening, yesterday: a Republican-led initiative in the House to impeach Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein has been formally introduced by Representatives Mark Meadows (R-NC) and Jim Jordan (R-OH) -- going against House Speaker Paul Ryan's sentiment of allowing the Mueller Investigation play out to its end. Paul Ryan has yet to respond, at time of reporting. It's Thursday, July 26, 2018. Welcome to Morning Joe.
