In an effort to distract followers from residual fallout from last week's Helsinki Summit with President Vladimir Putin, President Donald Trump, on Sunday, tweeted a threatening message to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani. Iran, soon afterward, responded with indifference, saying that the country is "unimpressed" by Trump's words of malice. Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif even went as far as mocking President Trump on Twitter. Meanwhile, in the wake of the Iran tweet, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders revealed that the White House is in the process of reviewing security clearances of noted Trump dissidents. Among those named are Fmr. FBI Director James Comey, Fmr. CIA Director John Brennan, and Fmr. Deputy Director of the FBI Andrew McCabe. Sarah Sanders alleged that the administration staff were using their security clearances for the purpose of "monetizing public service." That said, both Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner have directly profited from activities afforded to them through the advising of the President and through their respective security clearances. In addition, President Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort has reportedly doubled its membership dues; and, Politico has reported that the Secret Service has afforded the President an additional $1.6 million through extraneous protection services. It's Tuesday, July 24, 2018. Welcome to Morning Joe. |
