President Trump has utilized the 'power of the pardon' on controversial pundit, and noted Trump supporter, Dinesh D'Souza. D'Souza was indicted on campaign finance charges back in 2014 and is quoted saying he knew what he did was illegal. The case against D'Souza was led by Former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara, who was ultimately fired by the President. Trump said that D'Souza was treated very unfairly by the government in the trial. The pardon of D'Souza has some congressional members, like Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA), questioning the motives of the President. Warner, in a tweet, saying "he may also be sending a message to witnesses in a criminal investigation into his campaign...no one is above the law." Also happening: the President has announced new tariffs on metals from some of the U.S.' closest allies, including Canada and the European Union. The tariffs are intense: 25% on steel and another 10% on aluminum -- raising prices on select goods for Americans, and, reportedly, putting at least 2 million jobs at risk. |
