This morning marks 5 days until the midterm elections; and, we've received new polling, out today, from NPR/PBS Newshour/Marist College that places the president's approval rating at just 41%. This is an exceptionally crucial number going into the final few days before the 6th because, as Steve Rattner has pointed out, the president's approval rating directly impacts the performance of his or her party in a particular election. To compensate for his draining approval rating, President Trump has been running the political gamut of false promises and exaggerations to stoke conservative support, next week. Most recently, Trump announced a plan to triple the amount of troops stationed at the U.S.' Southern border to meet the migrant caravan traveling through Central Mexico. The caravan, however, is not slated to reach the U.S.-Mexico border for another two months -- and even so, their numbers are severely dwindling along the way. What's more, President Trump has also promised a second tax cut for the middle class to be put into place by November 1st. Today is November 1st, and there is no tangible sign of a middle class tax cut. With us this morning, once more, is National Political Correspondent for NBC News and MSNBC Steve Kornacki to break down the growing, countrywide Democratic lead in the polls, in the face of Republican fear-mongering. We'll also have Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate for the State of Florida, Mayor Andrew Gillum on the show to give his insight and critique of his opponent's (and the president's) usage of "Lock Him Up!" at a rally, last night in Fort Myers. It's Thursday, November 1st, 2018. 5 Days until the midterm elections. Welcome to Morning Joe.
