Down to the Ire: President Trump's Approval Rating Suffers as Disdainful Rhetoric Hurts GOP Numbers One Week from Election

Description:

This morning, we're receiving new polling numbers on President Trump's sliding approval rating, one week from the midterm elections. 40% of the country approves, while 54% say they disapprove of the job that Trump is doing. What was a 6 point negative approval rating, just one week ago, is now at a staggering 14 points.

Numbers aside, the president's schedule for the next week, until the 6th of November, is packed with campaign rallies and appearances across the country to attempt to drum-up last-minute support.

In order to do that, the president's rhetoric, as the election draws nearer, is taking a turn for the bitter, racist and especially-vitriolic. This includes stoking fear of what may happen if the migrant caravan, moving through Central Mexico at the moment, reaches the Southern border of the U.S. Trump even tweeted a warning to his supporters, on Monday, saying, "Many Gang Members and some very bad people are mixed into the Caravan heading to our Southern Border."

President Trump's new talking points have been corroborated, with spirit as opposed to with facts, by many Fox News pundits and their guests -- who have asserted that the migrants will be bringing with them, across the border, scores of diseases including smallpox.

The dehumanizing rhetoric and the attempt at stoking hyper-partisan allegiances has been heavily criticized by several politicians, including by Senator Chris Coons (D-DE), who joins us, this morning, to discuss the synthetic fear of the migrant caravan and the Pentagon's subsequent decision to send 5,200 additional troops to the U.S.-Mexico border -- all right before the election.

And, MSNBC's National Political Correspondent Steve Kornacki joins the panel, once more, to break down the latest midterm polling figures in the wake of President Trump's suffering approval rating. Can the massive influx of Democratic spending bring supporters to the polls?

Later in the episode, Director and Correspondent for PBS' 'Frontline' James Jacoby joins us to discuss his new piece, 'The Facebook Dilemma,' and how exactly the proliferation of misinformation on Facebook and social media in general is diluting U.S. democracy and deteriorating our personal privacy.

It's Tuesday, October 30th. One week until the midterm elections. Welcome to Morning Joe.
