With the highly-anticipated midterm elections only 15 days away, Democrats on the ballot face an uphill battle against their Republican challengers off the heels of a two-fold blow: growing Republican enthusiasm in regards to turning out to the polls, and President Trump's highest approval rating in months. This morning, we have the latest voter enthusiasm poll numbers, and the most up-to-date polling from Florida's hotly-contested Gubernatorial race between Democratic Mayor Andrew Gillum and Republican Representative Ron DeSantis. The two met, last night, in Tampa, Florida, where multiple jabs were taken at the other's political experience, immigration, and, most notably, DeSantis' "Monkey This Up" comment that landed him in hot water. We'll bring you the highlights from that debate; plus, Joe, Mika and the panel will breakdown President Donald Trump's proclivity for lying to the press, and his supporters, for flash-in-the-pan political gain. A strategy that may pay off this November, provided that his supporters "stay angry," according to New York Times reporter Jeremy Peters, who also joins us, this morning. And, the latest on murdered Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi -- Saudi Arabian officials now admit that Khashoggi was, in fact, killed. According to the Kingdom, he was slain in a "quarrel" by the hands of an unnamed suspect when he attempted to take Khashoggi to Saudi Arabia from the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. This is a notable departure from Saudi Arabia's previous iterations of what had occurred, which had ranged from complete denial to asserting that if Khashoggi had died at the consulate, the Kingdom had no knowledge of it, nor had a hand in it. Multiple Senators, including Senator Bob Corker (R-TN) and Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) have condemned Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman -- pushing for a replacement and saying that there is no way MBS was not involved in Khashoggi's killing. President Trump, meanwhile, continued to assert that the Crown Prince is a "strong person," and that he could not have had prior knowledge of the incident. It's Monday, October 22nd, 2018. Welcome to Morning Joe. |
