The world is reacting, this morning, to a new audio recording released by Turkish officials that allegedly reveals the torture and subsequent murder of missing Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi. According to new reporting from the New York Times, a senior Turkish official leaked the gruesome details of Khashoggi's apparent death, describing his dismemberment and methodical removal of his fingers. It is unclear, at this moment, whether or not Khashoggi was alive when the dismemberment took place. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo paid a visit to Saudi Arabia, earlier this week, to meet with King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman who reiterated to Pompeo that they had nothing to do with the disappearance of Khashoggi. Upon Pompeo's arrival, however, it was revealed by a State Department official that the Saudi Arabian government had deposited $100 million into U.S. accounts to aid in the stabilization of Syria. The State Department has since denied any connection between the deposit and Pompeo's visit. President Trump, meanwhile, is continuing his defense of Saudi Arabia, saying that the country is "a very important ally of ours in the Middle East," and a "tremendous purchaser of not only military equipment, but other things." Those "other things" have been revealed, by the president, himself, to be real estate transactions -- to the tune of "$40 million, $50 million" -- at Trump-owned properties. Also, this morning, Steve Kornacki joins us, once more, to break down the narrowing gap between Republican Representative Marsha Blackburn and Democrat Phil Bredesen in the contentious Tennessee Senate race; and, Beto O'Rourke's harsh turn to negative attack ads against Senator Ted Cruz with the midterm elections just 19 days away. It's Thursday, October 18th, 2018. Welcome to Morning Joe.
