On Sunday, CBS' '60 Minutes' aired a Leslie Stahl-led interview with President Donald Trump, wherein he repeatedly danced around and dodged criticisms of known dictators and controversial world leaders like North Korea's Kim Jong-un and Vladimir Putin, respectively, while taking jabs at NATO, the European Union, and his administration's Secretary of Defense, Jim Mattis. However, when prodded about repercussions stemming from slain Washington Post columnist, and permanent U.S. resident, Jamal Khashoggi, the president adopted a decidedly firm tone, saying, in part, "We're going to get to the bottom of it and there will be severe punishment." The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has since responded further to claims that it was, in some way, responsible for Khashoggi's disappearance by threatening severe economic repercussions if any sanctions were placed against it. Over the past few days of increased media coverage of Khashoggi's disappearance, several high-profile business leaders have been pulling out of an investment conference that is slated to occur in Saudi Arabia, later this month. J.P. Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon and Ford Motor Company Chairman Bill Ford have both opted to skip the meeting; but, U.S. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin has maintained that he will still attend, citing a joint effort to end the funding of terrorists. This morning, we'll bring you the highlights from Leslie Stahl's interview with the president, and Steve Kornacki joins the panel, once more, to give his latest insight on growing Democratic voter enthusiasm and how the "Blue Wave" may, indeed, break the GOP's House majority streak. It's Monday, October 15th, 2018. Welcome to Morning Joe. |
