America, Second: President Donald Trump Touts 'Excellent' U.S.-Saudi Relations as Questions Arise From His and Jared Kushner's Personal Relationship with Crown Prince

Description:

Yesterday, The Washington Post released new reporting by way of the Turkish government, saying that they are in possession of new audio and video that allegedly prove Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi was interrogated, tortured, murdered and dismembered while at the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul.

NBC News has not been able to independently confirm the reports, and Saudi Arabia claims Khashoggi left the Consulate soon after entering and denies a role in his disappearance.

On the heels of the new reporting, President Donald Trump was pressured for a response, once more, by members of the press, given his thus far lukewarm and tepid reaction to recent reporting on Khashoggi's disappearance.

In the Oval Office, yesterday, the president confirmed that he will not be introducing new sanctions onto Saudi Arabia; and, in turn, he cited the economic consequences of squandering a $110 Billion arms deal made with the Middle Eastern country. A deal that the Washington Post has found to be a fabrication.

Pulitzer Prize-winning Associate Editor of the Washington Post and author of "Fear: Trump in the White House" Bob Woodward joins the panel, this morning, to bring to light President Trump's and Son-in-Law Jared Kushner's dealings with Saudi Arabian leadership, and how their decades-old relationship may hold a powerful influence over the White House's reaction to the Washington Post's newest reporting.

Also, Steve Kornacki is here to break down a new piece from the New York Times that shows the GOP systematically abandoning midterm candidates who have fallen substantially behind their Democratic opponents in favor of tighter races. We'll also bring you the latest numbers from Senate and Gubernatorial races across the country, including from Texas, where Senator Ted Cruz's widening lead is causing many Texas Democrats to sweat.

It's Friday, October 12th, 2018. Welcome to Morning Joe.
