The Van Meter Monster is a cryptid from the small town of Van Meter, Iowa, first reported in 1903. Over the course of several nights, multiple respected townspeople, including a banker and a doctor, claimed to see a large, winged creature with a glowing horn on its head. Described as half-human, half-bat and seemingly impervious to bullets, the monster left locals terrified. The creature was last seen retreating into an abandoned coal mine, where it disappeared, sparking rumors of its otherworldly origins.
