One Symphony, Five Puppeteers, and a Thousand Gallons of Water

Description:

MacArthur Award-winning creator and director Basil Twist, puppeteer Lake Simmons and pianist Christopher O’Riley discuss the 20th-anniversary production of Twist's Symphonie Fantastique. Set to Hector Berlioz's revolutionary 1830 score, Symphonie Fantastique takes place in the most unlikely of places: a 1,000-gallon water tank, in which five unseen puppeteers swirl countless pieces of fabrics, feathers, fishing lures, flashlights, glitter, plastic and bubbles in all shapes and sizes, creating a dream-like world of imagination and surreal storytelling.

Symphonie Fantastique is playing at HERE (145 Sixth Avenue) through June 17. Basil Twist also has an event tonight at 7pm at The Greene Space. Videos of Basil Twist's artistry can be seen in videos from CBS Sunday Morning, The New Yorker, and the MacArthur Foundation

This segment is guest hosted by Cindy Rodriguez.
