In two years, the U.S. Census Bureau will undertake the herculean task of counting every person living in the United States. To iron out wrinkles prior to 2020, the Bureau is conducting a “dress rehearsal” in Central Falls, Rhode Island, where the population is majority Latino and a third are foreign-born. Sam Adler-Bell, journalist and senior associate at the Century Foundation, reports that what should be a well-funded dress rehearsal is turning out to be a chaotic "stage reading" with dire consequences for 2020. His story for The Intercept is titled “Countdown: How the Trump Administration is Botching its Only Trial Run for the 2020 Census.”
