Joshua N. Winn, Professor of Astrophysical Sciences at Princeton University, discusses his recent article in Scientific American titled, “Shadows of Other Worlds.” Winn looks at how a NASA mission called Kepler used a space telescope to discover thousands of new planets, upending many assumptions we’ve made about space and other solar systems. Kepler will soon be replaced by a new satellite called TESS, which will uncover new data about planets with short revolutions around their suns.
