Jeff Novitsky - UFC VP of Athlete Health and Performance | #178

Category: Health
Duration: 01:25:01
Publish Date: 2016-12-20 21:00:00
Description:

Jeff Novitsky, UFC’s vice president of athlete health and performance, is our guest for episode 178. He provides the connection between the UFC and the United States Anti-doping Agency or (USADA), the entity that’s contracted to oversee testing for performance enhancing drugs for the UFC (and USAPL Powerlifting, by the way). Many of you will know that in his previous job as a federal agent, Jeff was at the center of the investigations of Barry Bonds, Balco, Lance Armstrong, etc. In some circles, he was known as the Steroid Cop.

It was very interesting to hear that those investigations were not originally centered on athletes, but on suppliers, and how his current job is really more about helping and supporting UFC athletes than anything else. He takes us inside Bones Jones latest suspension, and talks about some of the other athlete health initiatives UFC is involved in, like concussion testing and the effects of severe weight cuts.
